About Stupid Thoughts

About Stupid Thoughts

Post 18:

I was sitting on the airplane today, trying to spread out in all the luxuriousness that coach provides. A man in front of me and to the left had a broken arm. It must have been pretty serious, because some type of apparatus was slinging his arm perpendicular to his body. All sorts of straps and the like. I felt bad for him.

So his left arm is basically in a fixed position in front of his face. I’m about to cry, and then all of sudden he uses his good arm to unveil his giant cell phone screen. He had it covered with a Velcro thing. But there it is. Perfectly situated for his texting and Twitter and Netfilx needs. And then this thought goes through my head: “Dang. I wish my arm was broken. That guy doesn’t even to take his phone out.”

Now I’m not saying the thought was long. I didn’t linger in a state of envious misery. But the thought occurred. It was just long enough for me to notice it.

So what? Stupid thoughts happen. But this has to be up there. I literally wished, even if it was for a second, to have a broken arm and a cool cell thing attached to the obviously horrific and inconvenient piece of medical equipment slung around this poor chap.

If there’s a moral to this ridiculous story, it might be this: When you have a thought, have one more just to make sure it wasn’t stupid. I don’t know. Triple check. Can’t hurt.

Or break your arm. You can read my blog easier. See you after.
