About Sneaky Blinders

Post 678:

I’ve mentioned on the blog and on YouTube how much I enjoy Peaky Blinders, and the newest season recently dropped. The nice thing about the show is that it doesn’t swamp your life down with too many episodes. It’s six installments this season once again.

I really like the show, though perhaps the idea of main character Tommy creating a multi-layered set of problems and enemies for himself is getting worn down. This ends a bit different, but I’ll say although it’s better than almost anything out there these days, it doesn’t quite compare with some of the other seasons.

The integration of historical characters within the fictional story of the Peaky Blinders gang has always been a cool part of the show, and here we’re offered a real villain of history named Oswald Moseley. A lot of people don’t know it, but there was a very large group of fascists that rose up in England, paralleling the rise of Hitler and Mussolini. The movement was strong and had a real effect on the government in the 1930s. The followers of the party in Britain called themselves blackshirts.

Just another bunch of assholes that managed to take one or two economic grievances and turn it into a whole big pile of crap that has nothing to do with economics.

I think maybe Moseley’s rise and popularity are probably something the jolly old Englanders don’t want to think about; I get it, but I’m also all about that history.

With that said, between the usual great dialogue, the awesome chorus-affected guitar score, the amazing cinematography, and slowed down/speed up camera visuals, Peaky Blinders is definitely worth the time. Great performance by Cillian Murphy as usual, and there’s a few sequences (one with land mines) that is taut and visually great. This show does not hold your hand. You have to pay attention to what Tommy’s about all the time; he’s a sneaky dude, and this year, maybe more than ever, he’s in his own world.

Check it out, and if you haven’t seen the rest of the show, get in there.

            Cheers and see you after.
