Silicon Valley is hilarious, season after season. It takes a lot for me to get into a comedy, but the story is layered enough to keep me invested and then some.

Besides the well-timed jokes and great characters, I love getting an education in the tech world.

Hey! I’m aware. It’s a fictionalized comedic interpretation. Still, I feel like I’m learning things: start-ups, venture capitalists, compression codes, etc.

Things I’ll never know about. Ever.

It may be that the show is dead wrong about the innovation market, but it’s convincing enough to make me a believer. It also makes me feel like I’m smart enough to understand a world that I’m actually way too stupid to understand. See. Not smart. That sentence proves it.

Watching a show like this is sort of like larping. Instead of pretending to be a dragonslayer, I pretend like maybe I could come up with some app idea that changes the world.

This is all going down on a subconscious level. Of course, I’m not actually fantasizing or pretending. My current life is perfect and therefore leaves no room for escaping into imagined realities. Eh…

Really though, the writing is very nuanced and skilled. There’s a basic storyline, a basic villain, but the jokes and the canvas are truly sophisticated. Very smart choices by the makers. They take a complex world and boil it down for the plebs.

I’m one of the plebs. And proud of it. Still, I imagine I can enjoy the finer things. It’s one of the reasons I like Silicon Valley. Cheers and see you after.
