About Little Heaven

About Little Heaven

Post 1864:

Nick Cutter’s Little Heaven is very good. I bet someone will make it into a TV series. The characters are nice and separate and realized and their points of view are understandable. It is a story that gets down into the muck and challenges the reader to wrestle with the destructive nature of evil. This isn’t always a great time, but he makes it into a great story. You’ll hate the bad guys and root for the good ones, such as they are.

I’m not a technical expert, but I’m thinking Cutter isn’t just writing pulp horror. Or maybe he is. Call it what you will. I’ll call it well written. sometimes wonderfully written. Frigging downright poetic at times. He’s relentless in his effort to paint a picture of the horrifying tortures visited upon the characters trying to survive this tale of false belief and real evil.

It may not be fair, but I will say the book is too long by a hundred pages. And I think the answers at the ending are a little vague. Or I missed something. Always possible, though I do try to pay attention.

Above all else, I think, the author is trying to cause unease. At this, he succeeds in full. For adults. I recommend if you want something frightening and challenging. Nick Cutter can straight up write. Cheers and see after.
