Tyler Has Words is the blog of Tyler Patrick Wood, a writer/musician from Texas. You'll get free book excerpts twice a week. On the other days, you'll get words. If you would like an original take on everything by an expert on nothing, this might be a cool place to hang out.

About The Tibet Lady

About The Tibet Lady

Post 1783:

We’re all different. Diversity is our strength. Every snowflake really is unique. No one can understand what you’ve been through. If the world was super awesome, all of our clothes would be tailored all of the time. We have our own proportions. Our special needs and desires.

After all that…

We have a crap load in common. You might think a thing you thought is totally new, and yeah, it might technically be, but it ain’t. A lady living in Tibet in the year 3 pretty much wanted the same stuff out of life as we do. She wanted to survive, thrive, and live a life.

This is why good stories are rad. They take advantage of the fact that we’re not that different from each other and explore situations and characters that we can all relate to.

Unfortunately, sometimes we find ourselves watching characters or reading stories that are impossible to understand. This is because the writer got confused about what makes people people, or they’re trying to be some revolutionary non-person. Or they might not be real or have anyone real in their lives.

This unrelateable thing doesn’t work. Maybe in five years when they’ve forced computer chips into our brains and we’re no longer the lady in Tibet, these non story stories will work. But not yet. Not frigging yet.

I hope I’m not being confusing. Here, let me try this. If a character in a story does something you hate but it makes sense from their perspective, it’s a real story. If you find yourself saying who talks like this or why would any of this be happening, you are consuming crap that isn’t worth your time.

I say this because the bullshit has to be disregarded so we can hate and love on stuff that’s real. There’s only so much time. That’s what the Tibet lady would tell you. Cheers and see you after.
