About Weapons (Big Spoiler)

About Weapons (Big Spoiler)

Post 1843:

Weapons is a movie that isn’t very bad. I thought the premise was fantastic. Every kid but one in an elementary school class disappears. Weeks of investigation turns up nothing. This is a very rich premise with endless possibilities. What a mystery.

I loved the opening narration. It’s a little kid explaining the dynamic of this community crisis, which is a nice change. Whatever else happens in the film, it has a great hook.

Turns out, it’s a witch. She’s doing witch stuff. Poor little dude has to live with his witched-out parents and a frigging witch, which is actually terrible and terrifying. I thought watching him have to go through the motions with this old horrible crone was the saddest and darkest part of the story. The other characters are well-acted but don’t change enough to be called full characters. That’s probably a bit harsh, but oh well.

Every movie needs a great drug addict, and this has one. So points for that. He provides a little levity. One thing I did enjoy about the film was its ability to handle different tones. There are funny moments, gross moments, and scary moments. Some moments are arguably silly, and I don't think that’s intentional. All in all, I was almost fully invested in this movie. That’s not very common, as I am fully integrated into the TikTok and YouTube shorts way of processing entertainment and information.

I like a good moral lesson. Weapons has one for the ages. Don’t play with fire or you might get burned. Or in this case, eaten by a gaggle of ravenously engaged children. A good reminder. Cheers and see you after.
