About Weirdos
Post 1839:
If you put anyone under a microscope, you’re bound to find something strange. For people that make their living in the arts, no magnification is required. I’ve been around creative types my entire adult life and let me just say—the rumors are true.
Eccentric. Flighty. Inscrutable. Obsessive. Self-absorbed. Self-pitying. These are pretty common traits.
If you think I’m taking a dump on artists and writers, well yeah, but I’d like to pivot and say that sometimes the people I work with astonish me. Those who devote their lives to making cool stuff are admirable and gifted in ways that at times I take for granted. The voices I’ve heard. The paintings and designs I’ve seen. The books I’ve read. When it’s right, it makes all the weird worth it.
A friend of mine had a gallery exhibit the other day. He’s a wonderful painter, so I expected paintings. There they were. Then I walked up and asked what was going on with all the pottery. He said he just decided he an itch. Guy gets an itch and in weeks he’s taught himself how to make some of the best stuff I’ve seen.
Moments like that. Feeling like that. It’s a rush and it’s inspiring and does a lot for the soul when it seems like being regular would be incredible.
Who am I kidding—regular would be amazing. I should have been an accountant. Lord, give me strength. Cheers and see you after
