Tyler Has Words is the blog of Tyler Patrick Wood, a writer/musician from Texas. You'll get free book excerpts twice a week. On the other days, you'll get words. If you would like an original take on everything by an expert on nothing, this might be a cool place to hang out.

About Every Word

About Every Word

Post 2029:

The people I admire most in life tend to be quiet. They let everyone around them talk. I’m sort of like that, but my reservedness is basically a front. Once you even come close to poking me to expound on a topic, I’ll let loose until I’m clean out of breath.

I love words. Love making them do things, making them make people think and laugh. I’ve always been like that. It wasn’t my upbringing, I don’t think. Most people in my family are admirable, not knucklehead chatterboxes like me.

I’d like to take back a lot of the dumb stuff I’ve said over the years, but it doesn’t work like that. Best you can hope for is that people forget or that you forget, on account of the sheer volume of nonsense being divulged.

Good news is, writing is different. You can totally erase stuff. Delete that mess till your heart’s content. I’m a big fan of deleting. Every word is so important. In a weird way I know this as well as anyone, because I’ve wasted so many.

Imagine all the times someone has been talking and you didn’t want to listen. Is there anything worse than that? Of course there, but not much.

Keeping your trap shut is hard. People will think you’re weird if you don’t say things. That’s unfortunate. Fortunately, we have writing. People will love you if you delete as much as possible. These are the facts and I’m sorry but that’s just the way things are.

Write on. But get rid when you can. Cheers and see you after.
