About Good Moments
Post 2015:
The World Cup is here. One of the venues is a few minutes from where I live and many of the people attending from all over the map have descended around me.
People are having a good time. No doubt about it. I see families, couples, groups of friends, all gearing up, hyped up, ready to go. It’s colorful, festive and diverse.
I’d like to be cynical about it. You know, say something about the irony of an event that charges thousands of dollars a ticket to see a game played and loved by the masses, especially the poor. I won’t say any of that.
People are having a good time. They’re drinking and jumping up and down with their arms around each other, singing songs about favorite players and national pride.
I’d like to point out that it’s strange how citizens can come together in love and harmony for a game but cast judgment and scorn on their fellow countrymen most days of the year. But I won’t point that out.
Life is short, but it’s also long. We need good moments. Times of unity. Partying it up is good. Bring on the goals and the drinking and the glorious tension. Give me good moments. Because we need them, and they don’t last.
Real life can wait. It’s never not waited. Enjoy the shenanigans. Cheers and see you after.
