About Noble Retreat
Post 2046:
In the course of writing a story, sometimes I’ll get lost in another world. I look to the clock and see time has flown, sands have shifted, day is night. It’s pretty cool, getting to go someplace else without moving more than my fingers.
It's also a tad abnormal. Not very adult. The real world has so much already, good and bad. It should be enough. And yet…
Could be, writing is a retreat. Not in the we’re going away for a weekend kind of retreat. The one where you slink off into the bushes to avoid the slings and arrows. Turning from the battle, and life can be a battle, isn’t what I had in mind when I started making things up.
So conjuring pretend in a brave and bold way is the key. Far as I know, that means writing that makes the world more real, illuminates the good and outlines the bad. Digging out truth from your mind and the words and actions of your characters. This is a retreat, but the noble kind.
At least I hope so. If I’m wrong, I’m not just wrong. I’m a big pansy. Nobody wants to be a big pansy. Apologies to any proud pansies. I’m going to stop now, because I’ve used pansy too many times and frankly it’s hard to stop. Cheers and see you after.
